Thinspiration

Did anybody watch The Biggest Loser finale last night? I'm not normally one to get sucked into reality tv shows. I have enough reality, thank you. But I just LOVE THAT SHOW. And last night was no exception. They had all the people who had been kicked off the show and had them all weigh in to see who out of them was the biggest loser before they brought out the 3 finalists. Everybody looked amazing. The show had made a lasting impression on everybody.

I think I was most impressed with the guy who had been kicked off the very first week. Even having been there for only a week, at the final show he had lost like 85 pounds! I was equally impressed with Pete who was the biggest loser out of the people kicked off the show. He lost nearly 200 pounds! You wouldn't have even recognized him as the same guy from the beginning of the show that weighed in at 401 pounds. He was half the size he was and he looked fantastic. And the three finalists looked absolutely incredible. They all lost a significant amount of weight and the numbers were really close. But in the end Matt, the most competitive one pulled it off. But he said that even better than being the Biggest Loser was that he had been sober for 9 months that night.

This show isn't about becoming supermodel thin. This show is about changing lives and making yourself better through the things you go through. They show that you don't need a quick fix like liposuction or facial reconstruction to become beautiful. These people learned more about themselves over the course of the show through all the trials than they ever would have if it had been easy. And they were able to take those positive feelings about themselves and turn it into an incredible weight loss. But it wasn't just about the weight loss. It was about lifestyle changes. And it was awesome!

They are my thinspiration.

We Gather Together

Would it be considered irony that I'm spending Thanksgiving with Native Americans? People constantly ask me about that.

"Where are you going for Thanksgiving?"
"The Navajo reservation to be with my husband's family."
"Do Native Americans celebrate Thanksgiving?"
"These particular ones do."
"Why? 'Thanks for stealing all our land and everything else we had before you pilgrims came'"
"Something like that."

I Never Dreamed Home Would End Up Where I Don't Belong

Our apartment is being overtaken with boxes, boxes, and more boxes.

We're moving.

For the last year, Hubby and I have mostly enjoyed the apartment we've been living in. It's big, close to school, family, and the freeway. But our neighbors are totally crazy and the biggest problem of all: cigarette smoke.

I don't know why apartment complexes can't be like hotels and set up one section as a smoking section and one section as a non-smoking section. But they don't. And the majority of the people around us smoke like crazy. And I wouldn't mind so much except it seeps through the walls to our apartment. The first day we walked in we were overpowered by cigarette smoke. Air fresheners seem to help for awhile but any time we open a cupboard or closet we get another bout of smoke.

My lungs hurt. My allergies have gone haywire. We've had enough. Our lease is up at the end of the month and we'll be moving into a non-smoking residence.

Finding a non-smoking home didn't prove as hard as I thought it would be. I don't know why we didn't think about this in the first place. We found the most darling apartment in a fourplex on Capitol Hill. It's about the same size as our apartment now for about the same price. And NOBODY SMOKES. It's close to work, close to the U where Hubby will be transferring, and close to downtown which will be really fun. The only thing I'm worried about is sliding down the hill in my car when the weather gets bad but I think we'll be ok.

Now comes the fun part: boxing up everything we own and hauling it to our new residence. We can actually get in the new place this weekend and we keep the old place until the end of the month so that actually is a little bit more convenient. We can take a little over at a time. But we're running out of boxes...
