Moving Blues

We have to move. Again. I really hate moving. I REALLY hate moving in December.

We had really hoped when we moved in here last year at this time that we'd be staying for awhile. At least until Hubby was done with his bachelors. It's close to our jobs, close to the freeway, not too far from our families but still closer to school than we were before. It was going to work out perfectly.

Until Baby J came along unexpectedly. Now our one bedroom apartment is a little too small for the three of us. We're making it work right now but Baby J sleeps in a pack'n'play bassinet and pretty soon he'll be too big to stay in that. And we'd really like to put up his real crib anyways.

So, the hunt begins for a 2 bedroom apartment that fits our needs but still fits in our budget. It's harder than we thought. Most of the 2 bedroom apartments that fit in our price range are still available for a very good reason. Uninhabitable.

I'll put it out there to y'all. If anybody knows of a nice, CHEAP, 2 bedroom apartment, duplex, 4-plex, house, condo, etc here in the valley that's suitable for a baby, please, PLEASE, let me know.

Thanks. You're swell.

Yeah, Right

Conversation had with the checker at the grocery store:

"So, what fun plans do you have for this evening?"

"Just hanging out with my husband."

Looks at hand, sees ring, "Oh, you're married?"

"Yeah." It's a good idea to look for a ring before you try to pick up on someone. Dummy.

Not that I would have gone out with someone wearing a Thanksgiving dinner on their head even if I was single.

Three Years

Three years ago today I started working here. Some of you may be thinking that's not a very big deal and you've been at your job way longer than that. But for me, it's a big deal. I've never worked anywhere as long as I've worked here. Most of my jobs, I only worked for the company HALF as long as I've worked here. I tend to get bored after about a year and a half and ready to find something new. I almost did that at this time last year. I had finished my associate degree and was going to take a break and work full-time while Hubby finished his bachelors. I had several interviews and several job offers but in the midst of my search I found out I was pregnant and became very very sick. I knew I couldn't work full-time, and was comfortable still working here while battling morning sickness (morning, ha!). Plus all my co-workers were very excited when they found out I was going to be having a baby. I couldn't leave! So I'm still here.

Three years ago I had just returned from Cleveland. I was in need of a new job and had been to several interviews but none of the places I interviewed felt like a place I would want to work. Probably within 10 minutes of faxing my resume to this company I got a call back and they wanted me to come for an interview the next day. As soon as I walked in I knew this was where I would be working. The interview went well and I was asked back for a working interview. By the end of the week the president had called me to see if I could start the next week - the week of Thanksgiving.

Sometimes I wonder why I've lasted longer here than anywhere else. It's not that this has been my favorite place to work, because it has not. It's not that I absolutely love the work I do, because I don't always. A lot has changed over these past three years. Probably only half the people who were here when I started are still here. My responsibilities have changed some in that time. I have changed over these past three years. I've gotten married and had a baby since I started here. Although it hasn't been my favorite place to work and I had better and closer friends at other places I have worked I still really like it here.

Who knows, maybe I'll still be here in three more years.
