You Kiss Your Mother With That Mouth?
I watched Fear Factor last night.
I was flipping through the channels after American Idol thinking maybe Law & Order: SVU would be on but it turned out to be Fear Factor instead. I'm not one to watch it very often. I think the contestants are all a bunch of idiots for doing those crazy stunts and in my "delicate condition" I have a hard time watching them eat much of anything. But Hubby likes it so we left it on.
I have never been so mad about a person's behavior on reality tv in my life. And there have been plenty of behaviors for which I could have gotten mad. But this time I got really really mad.
I think we came in in the middle of the show. It was mother and son teams and they were working on getting keys unscrewed with snakes everywhere and opening cans of scorpions they had to transfer from one bowl to another with their teeth and then something about chugging rotten milk (yeah, couldn't watch that part). The team that won that stunt actually got a year's worth of mortgage payments paid for them. Not a bad deal. And on the next stunt the winners of that first stunt we watched are the team that made me furious. I'll just call them the Spoiled Brat (SB) and the Ridiculous Mom (RM).
The first team did the last stunt and they did really well. The moms had to drive a little sports car (sons were in the passenger seat) under a semi and get their car locked in under the semi. Then they both climb out of the car and up into the semi, grab a set of flags each, climb out of the semi and hang all of their flags along the side of the semi. Still with me? It looked like quite a crazy stunt and having been in several accidents I don't think you could have gotten me to do it so it's a good thing I wasn't participating. But the first team did it no problem so it looked a lot easier than I had expected. They did the whole stunt in 2minutes 20seconds.
Then the second team goes. As soon as they are out of earshot SB starts badmouthing the son on the second team. He starts in about what a jerk he is and F this, F that. And RM just sits there and doesn't say or do anything about it. SB is probably only 16 or 17, I'm sure he still lives at home, and she has every right to reprimand her child when he acts completely ignorant and immature. But that wasn't the part that made me completely furious.
The second team goes and for all the smack SB was talking they complete the stunt in 2 minutes flat. So then SB and RM are up. As soon as their out of earshot the host asks Team 2 about SB and they're nowhere near as badmouthy as he was. But the son says something with the word "hell" in it and his mom looked at him and was like "what did you just say?" and he apologizes for using THAT word! Good mom. That's what RM should have done. You could tell he respected his mom, unlike SB.
So then SB and RM take their turn. RM doesn't clear the back wheels of the semi before she starts moving over and it ends up clipping the semi and they end up whirling around on the road and that's pretty much the end of their chance. But they decide to try one more time. Same thing happens. SB FREAKS OUT! He's completely livid. Swearing up a storm AT HIS MOM! Telling her how stupid she is and F this and throwing a tantrum like a 2 year old. I could not believe it. And the worst part was RM just sat there and took it. If it had been me I would have given him something to freak out about! I COULD NOT BELIEVE how ridiculously he was acting and that his mom just let him act that way. I mean, yeah, they lost a lot of money but they already won a year's worth of mortgage payments which may amount to more than the money they would have won if they'd won that challenge. And I have seen sore losers before but this kid was the worst one ever. I was furious with how he was acting and even more furious that his mom didn't do anything about it.
So I was mad when I went to bed. And then I had dreams all night where I had to deal with rude idiots that made me even more mad. It was a very fitful night of sleep. Stupid Fear Factor.
