In Sickness and In Health

Last week I started feeling worse and worse until I woke up Wednesday morning and could barely talk, my throat was so swollen. I ached all over and got light headed any time I tried to stand up. I called in sick at work and went to the doctor.

It was strep throat.

But I swear it was some mutant strand that wreaked havoc on my body for more than four days. Last time I had strep I was down for maybe 2 days. Once the antibiotics kicked in I felt much better. Not so this time. I had a fever of 103, my glands in my throat were swollen to the size of golf balls protruding from my neck, I was achy and sore and even my joints hurt.

I layed on the couch and watched movie after movie (between periods of unconsciousness). I felt like I was 5 again. My mom fixed me chicken and stars soup and put a straw in my drink, covered me with a blanket and continually changed the DVDs in the player. The only plus side to this was that I figured the liquid diet would help my wedding dress fit better!

The doctor was surprised and concerned when she found out I'm getting married this week. She promised to wage war on this mutant strand of strep throat with her best antibiotics (that aren't made from penicillin - I'm allergic). Apparently getting sick before your wedding is normal. My dad had shingles and kidney stones a couple weeks before he married my mom, one of my coworkers had mono right before her wedding, and several other people have told me stories of sickness shortly before their own nuptials.

Through all this my fiance was a gem. He came over and held me while I was sick and drove me around because my medicine advised me against operating heavy machinery. He saw me looking my absolute worst and told me I was beautiful. I guess he really can love me in sickness and in health.
